A large number of stones used in jewelry making are known as semi precious stones.  These stones may include but are not limited to: Amethyst, Lapis-luzula, Turquoise, Aquamarine, Topaz, Moonstone, Peridot, Alexandrite, Opal, Tourmaline, Zircon, etc..  These stones while comparatively common and inexpensive are indispensable to the artists who design and make jewelry.  The many varieties of color in these stones make it possible to produce and uniquely unusual design that will compliment the personality and dress of the wearer.
